Star Wars BluRay/DVD Deals & Star Wars: Rebels Trailer

Since Star Wars Day was on Sunday (May 4th), I wasn't surprised to learn that Amazon's Movie Deals of the Week all had a Star Wars connection. My daughter loves the Star Wars movies and the LEGO Star Wars episodes. My husband is also a big fan of the Family Guy Star Wars episodes, although those aren't kid-friendly.

When we watched the LEGO Star Wars: The New Yoda Chronicles episode on Sunday, we were excited to see the trailer for Star Wars Rebels which is coming to Disney XD this fall.

Amazon is offering up to 47% off either of the Star Wars Trilogies on BluRay and DVD Combo Pack (Episodes IV-VI or Episodes I-III). We have the six-pack of movies, but these are a great choice if you only need one set or the other. Both are currently priced at $31.99.

My daughter loves the LEGO Star Wars episodes. Amazon is currently offering Star Wars Lego Complete Bundle a 3 pack bundle of:

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Series aired 5 seasons on Cartoon Network and a sixth season was recently released on Netflix. Amazon is offering deals on each of the first five seasons, on your choice of BluRay or DVD.

For an older audience, they are also offering the Family Guy Star Wars Episodes. My husband enjoys them, but we don't let our 8 year old watch them as the humor is more adult oriented.

LEGO Friends of Heartlake City Episodes Now Available

Do you have a LEGO Friends lover in your house? My daughter loves building with LEGO so she was thrilled when LEGO introduced the Friends line. When we visited the LEGO KidsFest, she had to get her picture taken with Stephanie who plays soccer like she does.

This past summer I found the LEGO Friends of Heartlake City New In Town videos on You Tube. She and her friends loved watching the episode. Unfortunately the episode was broken into 10 individual videos which made viewing a challenge.

This morning I was on YouTube and found that there are two new LEGO Friends episodes released by Disney Shows. Unlike New In Town, these new episodes were each released as a single YouTube video making them easier to view (22 minutes each). All 3 episodes are also available on Netflix (including New in Town in one video).

The first episode is LEGO Friends: Dolphin Cruise. My daughter was very excited about this episode when I told her the title this morning since she has the Dolphin Cruiser set which was at the top of her Christmas wish list. She can't wait to watch the episode when she gets home from school.


The second episode is Stephanie's Surprise Party. As a soccer player, my daughter likes Stephanie because she has the Stephanie Soccer Practice set.

LEGO Movie Building Event at Toys R Us

My daughter has been eagerly awaiting the LEGO® Movie since last summer.  She is so excited that it is finally coming out on Friday. She has already requested to go see it Friday night and no other activity has convinced her to delay until Saturday night.

Saturday afternoon, Toys R Us stores nationwide will have the LEGO® Movie Building Event from noon-2p. Kids will have the chance to build Emmet's car from the movie. There will be a raffle to enter by 2p for a chance to win LEGO® prizes and toys.

The event is designed for children ages 5 and up with a limit of 1 build per child. However, they never turned my daughter away when she was younger than the recommended age.

We have attended many events at Toys R Us over the years. We have had mixed experiences. Sometimes we have shown up at the start time to find they have just started setting up. Other times, we have arrived 30 minutes into the event and found that they had run out of supplies. For an event that my daughter is really interested in (like this one), we will typically arrive a few minutes early to be sure that we are there before materials run out.

LEGO Thor and Loki World Premiere Adventure Video

My daughter absolutely loves LEGO videos. She is also a big Marvel fan and is looking forward to the November 8 release of Thor: The Dark World. She is going to love this video of Thor & Loki's adventure getting to the World Premiere of the movie in London.

LEGO Star Wars Deals - Jabba the Hutt fans - Plus ships!

This morning my husband was browsing Amazon's LEGO selection and found several great deals on LEGO Star Wars Sets. My daughter (and my husband) love both LEGO and Star Wars so he is always keeping his eye out for discounts. He was saying that Toys R Us is offering a 20% discount in store, but that isn't always a great deal because their regular price is higher than the standard list price on many sets. Amazon's list prices typically match the LEGO catalog price and it is rare to see a list price lower than the catalog.

One set my husband and daughter have been eyeing up is Jabba's Palace which retails for $119.99. Amazon has it marked down to $89.81. That is a great discount for LEGO.

 
Two other Jabba the Hutt themed LEGOs are also on big discounts to go along with it. Rancor Pit 75005 is $45.60 marked down from $59.99.

Jabbas Sail Barge is avialable for $95.99 marked down from $119.99. Not as big of a discount but still a decent discount.

LEGO Bricktober at Toys R Us

October is LEGO Bricktober month. Toys R Us will be having a special Bricktober event this weekend.

Saturday, October 19 from noon-2p they will have "A Super Event for Every Hero". Participants will build a FREE LEGO DC Super Heroes The Joker Mini Mech Bot. The event is geared towards kids ages 5 and up and requires parental supervision during the event. Materials are limited, so I suggest arriving early. We have attended some events where they have run out of materials in the first half-hour.

LEGO City Build at Pottery Barn Kids

Pottery Barn Kids Stores will be offering a LEGO City Mini Firehouse Build on Sunday, October 6 from noon-4p to celebrate Fire Safety Month. Kids will be able to build a mini LEGO City Firehouse and take it home for free.

The event is for children ages 4-12 who are accompanied by an adult.  Space is limited, and an RSVP is required. You can reserve your spot in person or by calling your local store.

My daughter would love this event, but since our nearest Pottery Barn Kids (and LEGO store too) are over an hour away, I think we will pass on the event.

Pre-Order LEGO Marvel Universe Video Game Now - Save $10

Since summer began my daughter has been on a LEGO Star Wars kick for Wii. It is definitely her favorite game. She also loves the Marvel Universe, so we were very excited when the trailer for the LEGO Marvel Universe Game debuted.

However, our excitement was short-lived when we discovered that the game would not be available for Wii. I am quite disappointed that a LEGO title which has a strong following of children is not being released for the Wii which is primarily a family gaming system, yet is being released for the other legacy system (Playstation 3 and XBox 360). The PS 3 and Wii were both released in November 2006 while XBox 360 was released the prior year (November 2005).

This has only increased my daughter's lobbying for an XBox Kinect, but I am hesitant to spend that kind of money when the XBox 360 is already 8 years old and XBox One is releasing this fall. I am not excited about the Wii U, I think Nintendo had a few flaws in the design fi their target market is family gamers. With only one fancy touch screen controller and no ability to add a second, it is sure to cause an issue with kids about who gets the "good" controller.

LEGO Star Wars Yoda Chronicles Episode 2 Airs Tonight

The second episode of LEGO Star Wars Yoda Chronicles, Menace of the Sith, will air on Cartoon Network at 8/7c. If you missed the first episode (The Phantom Clone), it will air prior to Menace of the Sit at 7:30p. Don't forget to set your DVRs.

My daughter loves LEGO Star Wars, so we will definitely be tuning in. She has loved the two DVDs: The Padawan Menace and Empire Strikes OUt. The special features on the Padawan Menace are definitely worth watching.

This summer she really got into LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga on the Wii.

LEGO Brick City Book - End of School or Father's Day Gift

Today I found the book Brick City: Global Icons to Make from LEGO while out shopping. I immediately put the book in my cart for my daughter to give dad for Father's Day. They both love LEGOs and building them together. I hope the book inspires her to build more form her imagination and less from the pre-purchased sets.

The book gives instructions on how to build various icons from a NY City Taxi Cab to the Empire State Building to the White House and even a Parisian coffee machine. The models with directions range from the size of a mini set (the LEGO White House or US Capitol building are made with just a few pieces on a miniature scale) to a model that is over a foot tall like the Empire State Building.


The LEGO Architecture sets are some of my daughter's favorites (she only has the small sets), so I know she will love working on these sets with Dad.

The book would make a great end of school gift to keep your child occupied over the summer or, as in our case, would be a great gift from a child to a Dad who loves to build LEGO with them.

LEGO DC Super Heroes Events at LEGO Stores

LEGO will be celebrating the June 14 release of Man of Steel, the new Superman moving starring Henry Cavill as Superman, with two special events.

LEGO^® Stores will be holding a FREE LEGO Superman™ Mini Model Build on Wednesday, June 19 at 5p. The event is FREE and open to children ages 6-14 only. Quantities are limited to approximately 150 per store, so plan to arrive early.

Then, on Saturday, June 22 they will have a LEGO DC Super Heroes Club Meeting. LEGO Club Meetings are held Saturday mornings before the store opens. The event is $25/child or $20/child for VIP Members. Attendees will recieve a limited-edition LEGO Club t-shirt.

LEGO Mini Model Build for June

Each month LEGO Stores offer a FREE Mini Model Build on the first Tuesday of the month beginning at 5p and continuing while supplies last. The event is for children ages 6-14 only. There is one free model per child.

June's Monthly Mini Model Build is a LEGO Fisherman.

Since our "local" LEGO store is over an hour away (without commuter time traffic). we have never been to one of the monthly model builds.  If our store was close, we would definitely attend some of them. We were at Walt Disney World the first Tuesday of April and I did consider visiting the LEGO Store at Downtown Disney for the model build, but decided to stay in the parks.

My daughter likes building sets, but they then get placed aside in favor of the next new set. Lately we have been buying sets that will go on display when we are done with them...Harry Potter in our reading room, Star Wars in the basement television area, and special sets in our family room. However, many of our other sets are simply piled on my daughter's LEGO table (or left on the Dining Room table for weeks until they finally migrate to the table.
Today my husband found an article about Pleygo, a new company that offers LEGO rentals in a Netflix format. He told me about them and said I should write about them on my blog. After a quick search of the web, I found the company.

Pleygo offers LEGO rentals using a Netflix format. You pay a monthly subscription fee and can borrow one set a time.  When you are done with your set, you mail it back and they send you the next available set on your wishlist.

Building the LEGO Friends Camper (Available on Pleygo)

There are three price plans based on the sizes of the sets you wish to rent. The $15/month Fan plan allows you to select from small and medium LEGO sets. The Super Fan plan is $25/month and you can select from small, medium, and large sets (or pay $21/month when you pay for the year upfront). The Mega Fan Plan is the ultimate plan allowing you to select from the any LEGO set including the huge sets that typically run several hundred dollars. Shipping is included in your monthly subscription.

I have browsed their catalog for availability. Overall I found 45 sets at the fan level, 6 additional sets at the super fan level, and 11 additional sets at the Mega Fan level. Based on set numbers, I would recommend either the Fan or Mega Fan Plan. With only 6 sets to choose from, I am not sure the Super Fan plan is worth the price. They have a fairly decent selection of Star Wars sets, particularly if you do the Mega Fan Plan. They also have several Duplo sets for younger children. However, I did not find any Harry Potter or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle sets. I only found 1 Ninjago, 2 Chima, 1 Marvel set, and 1 Batman set. I hope to see their selection grow as they grow in popularity.

I think this is a great concept and wish Pleygo well. What do you think? Are you ready to give Pleygo a try? With summer break coming in the next few weeks, this is the perfect time to try Pleygo.

LEGO Star Wars X-Wing in Times Square

My daughter loves both Star Wars and LEGO, so I know she will love the pictures of the Life Size LEGO X-Wing that was revealed in Times Square today.

The LEGO X-Wing is the largest LEGO model ever built and has over 5 million bricks and took 32 designers 17,000 hours to put it together.

The reveal is part of the promotion for the new Yoda Chronicles television series which premiers on Cartoon Network on Wednesday, May 29 at 8p/7c.

LEGO has an album of 41 pictures on their Facebook page.

Gizmodo has a great article about the X-Wing including up-close shots that were taken before the reveal. It also reveals that the model will be in New York for 3 days before it is disassembled and transported to LEGOLAND California for the remainder of the year.

Can't make it to see the life-sized X-Wing? You can own your own smaller version. While you are waiting for the Yoda Chronicles series, check out the LEGO Star Wars movies - my daughter loves them.

LEGO Batman The Movie: DC Super Heroes Unite

LEGO Batman The Movie: DC Super Heroes Unite is being released on BluRay and DVD on May 21.

My daughter loves LEGO movies. She would be thrilled if this was a LEGO Marvel Super Heroes movie as she is more familiar with those characters and has several Marvel LEGO sets. She got hooked with LEGO Star Wars: The Padawan Menace and then we found LEGO Star Wars: Empire Strikes Out on Cartoon Network this fall. She was thrilled when it finally came out on DVD in March since it never re-aired on Cartoon Network. The Padawan Menace Blu-Ray includes bonus features that we recently discovered. These are well worth watching - especially the Star Wars in 2 Minutes Part 1 (Original Trilogy Ep 4-6)  & Part 2 (New Trilogy Ep 1-3). Unfortunately Empire Strikes Out did not include any of the bonus footage. She could browse through YouTube for LEGO videos for hours.

LEGO Batman The Movie: DC Super Heroes Unite is already available to purchase in digital format from iTunes and Amazon Instant Video. The BluRay Combo Back will include the BluRay, a DVD, an Ultra-Violet digital copy (allows streaming) and an exclusive Clark Kent/Superman mini-figure. The DVD Package includes the DVD disc and the same Clark Kent/Superman exclusive mini-figure. When I first saw the BluRay included a Digital Copy, I was going to recommend that. However, since it is not a real digital copy that can be downloaded to a mobile device. I lean towards buying the DVD. I would select the DVD over a digital copy in order to have the exclusive mini-figure.
